One of the main objectives of the new law is to encourage third parties, such as banks, to accept the power of attorney. Having a valid power of attorney is great, but if your bank refuses to recognize it, it becomes worthless. Under the new law, when you present a power of attorney to your bank, they have a legal obligation to review it within seven business days. During this period, they may either accept or reject the document. If there is a valid reason for rejection, they can request additional documents. There are three specific documents that the bank can ask for: the agent certification confirming the validity of the power of attorney, an English-language translation for non-English sections, and an attorney's letter attesting to the validity of the power of attorney.
