For someone seeking scholarship?

Im sure it depends on the field youre going into, but in general I strongly advise people to take a year off from school to work in a field youre interested in before enrolling in grad school. Grad school requires a lot of motivation and willpower which is really only possible if you are strongly invested in your end goals. Its hard to tell if youre that invested without some practical application. So I recommend working in a related field of interest for a while. Certainly work on your GRE scores, but more importantly work on developing your interests in grad school. What project do you want to work on while in grad school (your masters thesis)? What are the big questions you want to answer? What are the skills you want to learn? These are the things you will need to know to find the right grad program for you and you will need to be able to articulate these ideas when applying to grad school.
